- parenchyma is a type of simple permanent tissue. It is the most common simple permanent tissue and generally stores food. It also has large intercellular spaces. In some situations, it contains chlorophyll and so it is called chlorenchyma.
In aquatic plants, there are large air cavities in the parenchyma that help the plant to float. This type of parenchyma is called aerenchyma.
