Lesson 3: 7.2—World War IWATCH: Armenian Genocide
For centuries, the Ottoman Empire had operated with many different ethnicities within its borders. These different ethnicities, or “millets”, had some autonomy and maintained their own religions and languages. During the First World War, a new government in Istanbul carried out attacks on Armenian communities, claiming that they were a threat to national security. The Ottomans forced Armenians to flee their homes and into labor camps, and systematically massacred their communities. The atrocities provoked international outrage. From 1915 to 1917, over one million Armenians died.

- While this is a good introductory video to the Armenian Genocide, I think stating the Ottoman Empire as a group of different races, ethnicities, and cultures living together peacefully isn't the full picture.
My questions are:
When stating these claims, why decide to leave out things that go against the narrative of "slaughtering Armenians because they were a military threat"?
Why not discuss the Hamidian Massacres that took place in 1895-1896, where 250,000+ Armenians were massacred?
Why weren't the pogroms that took place before the start of World War I mentioned as well?(7 votes)- at1:06when you said that the Armenians lived peacefully they actually were not sultan Hamid had pograms agenst the Armenians for many years the tension had been high for many years.(0 votes)

- The activity before the video is an article about the Armenian genocide. You can read about it here:

- Just to make sure, The Muslims, Christians, and jews do not worship the same god. That is false. The Christians believe that Jesus is the son of God and jews do not think of Muhammad (PBUH) as a prophet, both major sins in Islam as Muhammad (PBUH) is being denied his prophecy in one religion while the other religion believes Jesus to be a partner in worship with God.(1 vote)
