Ancient Thebes with its Necropolis (UNESCO/TBS)
Thebes, the city of the god Amon, was the capital of Egypt during the period of the Middle and New Kingdoms. With the temples and palaces at Karnak and Luxor, and the necropolises of the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens, Thebes is a striking testimony to Egyptian civilization at its height.

- The "obelisk" that we see towards the end of the video showed remarkably little signs of erosion or wear and tear of any kind! The corners are still sharp and clean as if it was carved recently! I wonder why this is the case? Was this obelisk surrounded by other stone structures and thus not directly in the line of fire of the elements?(20 votes)
- Good question. I was going to suggest that it's granite, which the Egyptians often used. But it doesn't appear to be. My guess is it never fell over, and the elements were um, gentle to it over the years? I mean, besides sand storms, I don't think it rains much there. That's a great question for an expert.(15 votes)

- at1:08the columns shown appear to be smooth at their bottoms but carved further up. Is the smoothness at the bottom part of the design, the product of erosion OR some sort of restoration/repair?(1 vote)
- I believe that the bottoms of those columns are lost and have been reconstructed. They were left plain to clearly distinguish what is modern restoration from what is ancient.(2 votes)
- At1:40the columns seems to be be polished in a professional way, what type materials could the Egyptians use to carve the columns(1 vote)
- What happened to those who were sceptical about the beliefs that the priests carried about the Ancient Egyptian Gods?(1 vote)
