In this unit, we’ll travel back in time to late 16th century North America. This was the period that saw the first major waves of white, European settlers migrating to the continent from countries like England. We’ll focus specifically on the "lost” colony of Roanoke Island; a group of English immigrants who settled in modern-day North Carolina, but then vanished—and their fate is still unknown today.
In this unit, you will:
- Read informational texts about America’s history
- Read stories that explore what life was like then
- Think about what has changed and why those things have changed
By:
- Watching videos that explain different approaches and strategies for reading
- Reading and answering questions about literary and informational texts
- Expanding your academic vocabulary
In order to answer the essential question: Is history ever really lost?

I know a lot of people are like "history can't be lost, no matter how much people try!" but I'm sorry to say that it can get lost. there are so many amazing people from the past, whether that be from a thousand years ago, or last week; and they aren't even acknowledged! Also, I'm not trying to point fingers, but loads of men have completely erased women from the hall of fame we call history.
I want people to know that lots of history has been lost, and the only reason people say that its not lost is because we did find some of the deeper buried secrets, but the ones the are really lost, will never be found again.

many people say that history cannot be lost. But I disagree with this because the african-american community and others have lost a major of there history. So history can be lost and I am sorry for those who feel upset about this.(19 votes)

History is never lost, it’s rather just forgotten. All history is documented anywhere, it just depends how hard you look. In my opinion there are some parts of history that many people forget to acknowledge. For example, the airplane. The airplane was invented by the Wright Brothers, but no one looks up in the sky, sees an airplane and says, "Oh hey, the airplane was invented by the Wright Brothers."(8 votes)
